The hole was drilled <br />in 1937 to 406 feet; however, information about the well is meager. The <br />gushing effect may be caused by carbon dioxide. The hole reportedly produced <br />lOO,OOO to 250,000 cubic feet of carbon dioxide per day during initial <br />drilling. <br /> <br />Of the 422,000 tons of salt contributed annually to the Colorado River <br />system from the study area, about 274,000 tons are attributed to on-farm <br />sources, about l48,000 tons are attributed to off-farm sources, and less than <br />1 percent is attributed to saline flows from abandoned oil and gas wells. To <br />date, three drainages in the study area have been examined in greater detail. <br />These include Cottonwood Creek, unnamed Gulch, and Alum Gulch. Of the <br />off-farm sources for the entire study area, an estimated 28,000 tons are <br />attributed to these three drainages. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />~oa929 <br />
