RUEDl DAM AND RESERVOIR, COLO.

area is timber or grazing land. Clearing of about 600 ncres of medium
timber will be necessarv, It will be necessary also to relocate approxi-
mately 7% miles of two-lane, gravel-surfaced, State Highway No.
104 which now traverses the reservoir area and a like mileage of
telephone line.
. The nearest railhead is a branch line of the Denver & Rio Grande
1Vestern Railroad at nasalt, Colo., slil(htly more than 14 miles from
the damsite via State Highway 104, The nearest source of electric
power is the Pnblic Service Co. 'of Colorado's 115-kilovolt transmission
line about 1 mile away.
There are no adequate li,,--ing qnarters near the reservoir site for
construction personnel. The cost estimate provides for adequate
housinl(. Most of these units will be temporary type for use during
construction. One will be perml1nent type so as to provide continued
housing for a dam tender after completion of construction.
The operating principles specify that Ruedi Dam and Reservoir
must be in operation before diversions of water are made to the eastern
slope by the Fryingp,m-Arkansas project. As scheduled in the con-
struction program for the Fryingpan-Arkansas project, the total con-
struction penod covers 6 years. The first year would be devoted
mainly to preconstruction activity, the following 4 years to active con-
