The ,Amity Mutual Irrigation Company

151 Supel'intendent's Repol't

To
The Amity Mutual Irrigation Company

TO TIlE DffiECTORS AND STOCKHOLflERS:

Gentlemen:

~

The (olIm....ing statements covering the operation and maintenance of
The Amity Mutual Irrigation Comp;my. its canals and reservoir s,}'stem,
are submitted for your consideration.

AMITY CANAL

1967 was again a very good water year for Amity Stockholders. At
the beginning of the season nearly 200,000 acre Ceet of water was stored in
John Martin Reservoir. This amount, plus heavy river inflow in June, was
sufficient to satisfy all demands in District # 67 during the period of April
to November.

,\

Spring delivery was started on April 1, when 300 cis. was released
from John Martin for Amity use. It is interesting to note that, although the
maximum diversion allowed the Amity from John Martin storage i.-, .;76
cfs., the average diversion for the .210 day season was 255 cis. This
certainly disproves the allegation from some sources that the Amity is in-
discriminate in its usage of water. The credit for this conservation of
supply must go to our Stockholders, who request water only when it is
actually needed.

Heavy rains in the Wiley-Big Bend area on May 31 caused some damage
to the Canal west of the Lamar Country Club. This was repaired by June 3.
No further damage was experienced on the Amity this season.

The 228 Dragline has now completed the widening and re-aligning of
about 8 miles of the canal in the Lamar area. The excavation has averaged
about 10,000 cu. yd. per mile or a total of some 80,000 cu. yd. of material
removed. Work with the Bantam Dragline and contracted work in previous
years has cleaned an additional 4 miles. This leaves about 8 miles to be
:ce-vamped between Lamar and Stony Point. The area north and west of
Lamar subject to high inflows from the various seep ditches has now been
enlarged to dimensions exceeding the original size. The most persistent
growth of trees and willows have been removed.

The spraying of willows and small trees has been continued. A large
percentage of wU)QW growth has now been killed. The incidence of Johnson
gras s along the canal in some areas is beginning to cause concern. A pro-
gram to eradicate this pest is contemplated.

Page 17
