,r;
!.!?

'-

...

~i:~

Surface water is the main source of stock and irriga-
tion supplies in the area. On completion of the Crawford
Dam and Reservoir, additional irrigation water will be
made available.

The town of Crawford (population, 170) obtains an
adequate municipal water supply by pipeline from a spring
in Gunnison National Forest. Most of the rural residents
haul drinking water from Crawford.

Field investigations for the present Geological
Survey report were made March 26-30, 1962, and included
geologic reconnaissance, a pumping test, and water sampling.
The study of the geology and hydrology was aided by the
use of project maps and test-core logs, provided by the
Bureau of Reclamation, and by the use of the King well
for the p~mping test and water sampling.
