OTHER MAJOR PLANNING STUDIES <br /> <br /> <br />The States of the Rio Grande Region have summarized studies <br />pertaining to water and related land resources that have been made, <br />or are on-going or scheduled which are important to the assessment of <br />water resources in the Region. Data relating to other major planning <br />studies as submitted by representatives of the States follow. <br /> <br />COLORADO <br /> <br />shown on the following maps are the locations of on-going, <br />scheduled planning and implementation programs in ASA 1301. <br /> <br />Listed below with a brief description are the active and recently <br />completed planning studies, and the important programs underway. <br /> <br />1. Bureau of Reclamation, Closed Basin Project, authorized in <br />1972 (P. L. 92-514). Pre-construction planning underway. Will ul- <br />timately salvage 90.0 MGD of water by a system of wells, pumps and <br />conveyance canals from the Closed Basin to the Rio Grande. <br /> <br />2. U. S. Department of Agriculture, San Luis Valley RC&D Project... <br />Project Plan for San Luis Valley, Approved February 1972. Progrsms <br />are directed toward solutions to the water, economical, environmental, <br />social and recreational problems of the valley. Annual plan supple- <br />ment reports are prepared each year. 1976 Annual Plan Supplement No. 3 <br />reported 12 project measures completed and eight new project messUres <br />proposed. Also recommended were II special studies on the forests in <br />cooperation with the U. S. Forest Service. <br /> <br />3. u. S. Department of Agriculture, Coordinated River Basin <br />Study, Rio Grande, Colorado - Scheduled for c~mpletion in 1977. This <br />study coordinates all on-going programs, and develops a water manage- <br />ment plan for the Basin, in cooperation with all levels of government <br />and local interests. <br /> <br />4. Study underway and sch~duled for completion in 1978. u. S. <br />Corps of Engineers, Rio Grande and tributaries to determine the needs <br />for additional improvements on the Rio Grande and tributaries in the <br />interest of flood control .and allied purposes. <br /> <br />5. Flood Plain Information Report for the Rio Grande at Monte <br />Vista, completed in 1969. <br /> <br />6. Section 208, Water Quality Management Study, State of Colo- <br />rado, of non-designated areaS of the State; scheduled for comple- <br />tion in 1978. The Rio Grande Basin has been classified as a non- <br />designated area. Point and non-point sources of stream pollution <br />will be studied. <br /> <br />37 <br />
