Counties in ASA 1304 are generally located in the Pecos <br />River Basin and those in ASA 1302 are generally in the Rio Grande <br />Basin. <br /> <br />In national and regional planning studiea ~oncerning New Mexico <br />all of the area east of the ContinentafOiVide and extending to the <br />Arkansas-White-Red River and Texas Gulf Basins is considered part: of <br />the Rio Grande Basin. The ,P!"cos RiVer is 'a tributary of the Rio <br />Grande and joins the Rio Gnmde near 'Comstdck, Texas. In national <br />and regional planning, the Pecos River drainage ,is included as, a <br />sub-basin of the Rio Grande, however, in Ne~ Mexico 'the Pecos ,River <br />Basin is separate and distinct from th!" Rio Grande and for state <br />planning purposes, the basins are cons:Lde,red~,~pa~ately. ' ' <br /> <br />, , <br />The Pecos River and Rio. Surfaee-water supplies are limited and in most of the~ <br />area these supplies are fully appropriated"or connnitted, <br />mostly for irrigation' purposes. Uses for other than <br />irrigation of the~e supplies would require a transfer <br />of 'use from irrigation. ,. <br /> <br />2. Throughout much of the area yields from 8ro~ndwater <br />aquifers, are low to moderate and the qualitY' of water <br />is generally poor. Where these cond:iJ:,io~s:exist, the <br />supp~ies are not adequate' to meet projected increased <br />municipal and other uses. <br /> <br />. ~ <br /> <br />3.
