.

.

.

foe,..........
v~~o

The lowest stage was reached on May 13, 1971, when the storage was 47,999
acre-feet.

Inflow to Ruedi Reservoir during the May through July period was greater than
that predicted in the outlook for maximum probable conditions. It had been as-
sumed that the collection system would be in operation during those months and
inflow to Ruedi was reduced by estimated diversions to the Arkansas River Basin.
Actually, no Fryingpan-Arkansas project diversions were made as work under
the tunnel lining contract was not complete and the decision had been made not
to interrupt the work in progress to divert the water.

The total volume of inflow to ,Ruedi Reservoir during the spring runoff season
was 116 percent of that anticipated in the 1971 outlook under most probable con-
ditions if project diversions are added back. The monthly pattern varied from
that assumed. The runoff was late starting, resulting in a much lower May in-
flow and a much higher June and July inflow.

The ice cover on Ruedi Reservoir melted early in 1971 while the water surface
was below desirable levels for use of the Forest Service boat ramp. As a result,
numerous complaints were received by the Forest Service from local recreation
interests. The elevation of the bottom of the Forest Service boat ramp is 7704. 0
at which elevation the storage is 51,803 acre-feet. Storage was up to this eleva-
tion by May 20.

On July 1, 1971, Ruedi Reservoir storage was 101,316 acre-feet. By July 5,
storage had reached a maximum for the year at 103,010 acre-feet. This storage
content has a corresponding water surface elevation of 7766. 64 or 0.64 foot above
the spillway crest.

A minor variation was made from the estimated plan of operation in August. At
the request of the Colorado State Game, Fish and Parks Department, the release
from Ruedi Reservoir was reduced to 50 c. f. s. for two 5-day periods to allow
electrofishing of the Fryingpan River. This electrofishing was for fish counting
and tagging as a part of a migration and spawning study.

On October 1, 1971, there was 100,250 acre-feetin storage in Ruedi Reservoir.

Turquoise Lake

At the end of Water Year 1970 (September 30), Turquoise Lake storage was
37,717 acre-feet. Of that amount, 15,513 acre-feet was owned by the CF&I Steel
Corporation; 7,391 acre-feet by the Homestake project; 2,087 acre-feet by the
High Line Canal Company; 2,779 acre-feet by the Pueblo Water Board; and 9,947
acre-feet by the Fryingpan-Arkansas project. CF&I was storing a small amount
of Larkspur Ditch water for the Catlin Canal Company by exchange.

7
