<br />SALINITY CONTROL ACTIVITIES <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />f <br />f <br /> <br />Plannmg work continued on the Paradox <br />Valley and Grand Valley Umts, Colorado: and <br />the Las Vegas Wash Unit, Nevada. which were <br />authorized by the Colorado River 8asm <br />Salinity Control Act (p.L. 9J..320, June 24, <br />1974) This work included drilling 01 18 brine <br />production lest welts in Paradox Valley and <br />preparation of a OPR (Definite Plan Report) <br />and supporting appendices; selection 01 a <br />stage 1 area to begin constructton In Grand <br />Valley; preparation of a draft environmental <br />assessment for Grand Valley; and a draft en- <br />vironmental statement lor Paradox Valley. <br />Work performed on the Las Vegas Wash Unit <br />included research of bnne evaporation <br />enhancement to reduce the size 01 evaporation <br />ponds The OPR and supporting appendiCes <br />and draft enYironmental statement were <br />completed, <br />Feasibility studies continued on 13 other units <br />authorized for investigation. Collection of sur. <br />face and ground water flow and quality data <br />for all unllS is conhnulng, Planning activities in <br />the Upper Colorado Riyer Basin concentrated <br />on: (1) The Lower Gunnison (Uncompahgre) <br />and Uinta Basin Units improvement-lining <br />and structures for the canals and laterals and <br />onfarm improvement, ie" sprinkler systems, <br />gated pIpe, siphon tubes, land leveling, border <br />stripS, etc., and Instructions for IMS (lrngalton <br />Management Scheduling) to Improve the sched- <br />uling of irrigation applications; <br />(2) McElmo Creek UnIl-devIslng a plan to <br />prevent salts from entering the creek, and Meeker <br />Dome Unll-preventlng saline seeps from <br />enterrng the White RIver.
