Crawford Director of the Colorado Water Conservation Board Capitol Office Building Denver, Colorado Dear Ivan: We wish to express our appreciation for the efforts put forth by you and the staff to establish a gauging station on Cross Creek. Mr. Bell of the U.S.G.S. informs us that they will immediately put in a temporary station until funds are avail- able, on July 15, for the installation of an automatic station. By correlating the readings at the new station on Cross Creek with the established station on Homestake Creek, Mr. Bell believes they will be able to get a pretty good indi- cation of this yearls runoff on Cross Creek. They have also suggested that if we would like to have more readings than will be taken by their men, that we secure the services of some local man at Minturn to read the station, possibly several times a day during the spring runoff in order to establish diurnal readings. In the next few days we expect to meet Mr. Robert Harris or someone else from the Grand Junction Office of the U.S.G.S. to discuss the best possible location for the new station. Getting these readings on Cross Creek for this year's runoff will give us very valuable data for the possible yield of the Cross Creek drainage area. We have been using average year's runoff the same as we have done for establishing the yield, but the writer1s observation is that Cross Creek, for some reason, produces considerably more water per square mile than Homes take.
