Water from Beaver Creek, a tributary
of Dallas Creek, would be fed into the reservoir
by a four-mile section of water colleetion canaL
Water stored br. the reservoir would. be 1at'gely
used for the late season supply to lower valley
land of Dallas Creek. From the Willow Swamp
the collection canal would meander some 16 :miles
in a Northwesterly direetlon to the Dallas Divide
Reservoir. This ReservoJ1o would be constructed
on the Pleasant Valley Creek, a tributary of Dal.
las Creek, to provide 11,000 acre feet of active
capacity. It would regulate the runoff of the
stream on which it would be constructed. as well
as the water conveyed from the Willow Swamp
Reservoir and other tributaries of Dallas Creek
by the collection canal The Log Hill :Mesa Canal,
about 19 miles in length, would begin at the
outlet works of the Dallas Divide Reservoir and
extend generally north to serve irrlgable lands
on Loil: Hill Mesa. The Ridgway Canal would
tllvert water from the Uneompllhgre River about
2 miles from Ouray. From that point It would
be constructed for a distance of- about 18 miles
Northwest to serve the lands in lower Dallas
Creek Valley. Besides supplementing' the needs
of this land, water from this source, augmented
by the release from Willow Swamp Reservoir,
would replace water diverted hom the high trib-

1ij

utaries of Dallas Creek to irrigate the lands ol
Log Hill ......
The Ridgway Reservoir would ~ the
storage of water to replaee water diverted b>>:
the irrigation of lands on Log mu Mesa and
provide for snpplemental water on the presently
irrigated.landsb1111o!1.troae8DdDe1taCGontles,
as well u the lrrJgation of new lands br. COw Creek and to provide water
for the irrigation of lands not presently being
irrigated b1 Cow Creek.

BENEFITS
1. IRRIGATION.

The Dallas Creek Unit would provide b>>: a
fun supply of irrigatlon water fol' approximately
16,000 acres of new lands and 10,000 acres of
P1'eSently irrigated lands in Ouray County.
Would provide for a full water supply for ap-
proximately 10,000 acres of new lands in Mont-
rose and Delta Counties and for about '10,000
acres of presently lrrigated land in need of
supplemental water in Montrose and Delta
Counties.

2. FLOOD CONTROL.

During the year 1938, a series of public
hear!ngswas held by the eorps of engineers for
the JlUrP(!Se of determining flood damages with
desirable corrective Inellllures within the Colo-
rado River Basin above Lee's Ferry, Arizona.. In
each of the hearings testimony was presented
with supporting eVllb1ts provIded by local resi-
dents who were conversant with existing flood.
control problems. In such testimOny It 15 esti-
mated that during the 20-year period previous
to 1938, an average of about $8O,OOO;QO annually
has been expended by public and private in.
terests for flood-eontrol and repair of damage
along the Unoompal1gre River between Ouray
and Delta. An expenditure annually of this

amount capitalized over 100 years at 2.5% in-
terest would. eqUal almost $3,000,000.

3. INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT.

It 18 a well-recognized fact that the natural
resources of the areas surrounding the Uneom-
pahgre Valley are such that the prospects of
industrial development are very promiaing. How-
ever, In order for any 8I1Ch development to be
realized, it would be necessary that an adequate
water supply be available for soch 1ndt1stzy.
Without the storage of additional water, or im-
portiI1g additlonal water from. the Gunnison
River, there is no snpply of water for industrial
development in the Uncompahgre Valley. The
Dallas Creek Unit would provide water 'for a
large 1ndustria1 development 1n the Uncompah-
gre Valley. With the ever-increasing threat to
centralize industry, such industrial development
would assist the natlOnal defense in dtsbnrsing:
industry.

4, MUNICIPAL USE.

As the development of industry occurs, there
will be a corresponding need for municipal
water to aerve the people who will be connected
with soell industries. The same arguments ap-
ply to municipal water as apply to industrial
water--there is simply no additlonal water
available without storing the watel' or importing
Ie

5,. RECREATIONAL.

The four reservoirs of the Dallas Creek
Unit will be located in the most beauUful scenic
area of the United States. The Reservoirs would
provide recreation fae1litles unequaled in at.
traction 'in any place br. the United States.

:t:i~0:7:i"~~~'i"~'~~~
.-....
