<br />C. NARRATIVE <br /> <br />1. Control man caused activities which affect the Kanab ambersnail and <br />its habitat. <br /> <br />Control of human activities which adversely affect Kanab ambersnail <br />and its habitat is central to the preservation of the species and' its <br />ecosystems. The species is vulnerable to alteration and degradation <br />of its wetland habitat. <br /> <br />1.1 Ensure man caused activities do not adverselY impact the Kanab <br />ambersnail population on Federal lands. <br /> <br />A significant population of the habitat of Kanab ambersnail <br />occurs on Federal land within Grand Canyon National Park under <br />the jurisdiction of the National Park Service. The National Park <br />Service is responsible to ensure that resource values (including <br />threatened and endangered species and their habitat) on lands <br />under their jurisdiction are conserved for current and future <br />generations. The National Park Service has the authority under <br />the agency's regulations and the Grand Canyon National Park <br />enabling legislation to regulate and control activities within <br />the Park and the specific obligation under the Act to do so for <br />the conservation of the Kanab ambersnail. Potential recreational <br />activities within the Park will require the necessary permits. <br />etc. from the National Park Service before they can take place. <br /> <br />13 <br />
