Identify and evaluate salinity control activities <br /> <br />through the agency's land use planning process for <br /> <br />both neh and updated Resource Management Plans. <br /> <br />2. Incorporate salinity control objectives or <br /> <br />mitiga:ion in all activity plans located on saline <br /> <br />soils, and identify salinity decreases or increases <br /> <br />associated with the proposed action. <br /> <br />3. Evaluate salinity control benefits, effectiveness, <br /> <br />and costs associated with land management alternatives <br /> <br />on a1: saline soils. <br /> <br />The Adviso~y Council supports these commitments, and <br /> <br />recommends that BLM develop a tracking system for reporting <br /> <br />on these actions. <br /> <br />The Council has a continuing concern ~ith the salinity <br /> <br />control program described by BLM in its July 1987 report to <br /> <br />Congress. Of particular concern is the lack of <br /> <br />quantification of the salt contributions from the public <br /> <br />lands, and a determination of what portion of that <br /> <br />contribution could be controlled. <br /> <br />This is of particular <br /> <br />-12- <br />
