The municipal water would be lifted approximately 140 feet into the existing Colorado Springs municipal supply <;ystem, beginning with reservoirs located on the sOllth slope of Pikes Peak, The pumped water, regulated with the present supply, would generate energy in the two municipally owned hydroelectric power plants of the Colorado Springs system. FUTURE PUEBLO NEEDS In addition to providing treatment for Pueblo's pres- ent supply of 21,000 acre,feet, which is diverted from the Arkansas river, the Bureau's program would make avail- able a supply of 5,000 acre,feet for anticipated require, ments. The additional water would consist of 2,000 acre- feet from the existing \Vurcz ditch transmountain diver- sion and 3,000 acre-feet from the Frying Pan-Arkansas diversion. The WurtZ ditch is owned by the City of Pueblo. Storage facilities of the reclamation project would permit conservation of that water for'municipal use. Pueblo's total supply of 26,000 acre,feet of water would be pumped from Pueblo reservoir directly into thE': projected purification plant, where the water would be treated before being transferred by dual pipeline seven miles to the city's diqribution system. A reservoir would be constructed near the plant to provide the additional stora~e capacity required to supply the city's peak de- mands. MUNICIPAL SUPPLY FOR VALLEY TOWNS The municipal water requirements for eight valley towns which have voiced a desire to participate is esti- mated at 7,540 acre,feet by the year 2000. In order to provide a reserve for those towns and possibly others, 8,000 acre,feet of project water has been allocated for valley communities. The eight which have expressed a desire for project municipal water are Manzanola, Rocky Ford, La Junta, Las Animas, Lamar, Crowley, Wiley, and Eads. The water for these towns would be pumped from the Pueblo reservoir to the purification plant by the same pumping plant and penstock used to obtain Pueblo's water. After being treated in the purification plant, the water would be carried down the valley by a main trunk line. Branch Jines would be constructed from the trunk to Crowley and Eads. REMEDY OFFERED FOR SEDIMENTATION A remedy for the acute sedimentation problem af- fecting irrigation in the main Arkansas valley is included among the multi.purpose water conservation features of tbe project. ., \ ;:: , I :'j . , , :;,' iJI '1
