.

Q

..

~
N
00
00

SALT-LOAD COMPUTATIONS--COLORADO RIVER;

CAMEO, COLORADO, TO CISCO, UTAH

Part 2. Basic Data

By Robert Brennan and Richard U. Grozier

ABSTRACT

This report contains the basic data for the salt-load computations,
Colorado River, Cameo, Colo., to Cisco, Utah. The basic data consists of
regression curves of discharge versus specific conductance and specific con-
ductance versus calcium, magnesium, hardness, sodium, bicarbonate, chloride,
dissolved solids, and sulfate; duration tables of daily discharge and daily
specific conductance at six stream-gaging sites; and daily specific-conduct-
ance data for the period of record for all stations in the study area. Lo-
cation of streamflow and water-quality stations are shown on a map of the
study area,

INTRODUCTION

The U.S. Soil Conservation Service requested the U.S, Geological Survey
to: (1) Make available all daily specific-conductance data not previously
publ ished, (2) analyze the streamflow and water-qual ity data statistically,
through duration and regression analyses, and (3) make salt-load computations
for the Colorado River from near Cameo, Colo., to near Cisco, Utah. The
information has been compiled into two reports, one a summary of the data and
the other a basic-data report consisting of computer tables containing the
results of standard computations made by the computer.

With current interest in reducing the salt load in the Colorado River
system, computations were made using available U.S, Geological Survey data to
designate areas of data deficiency. Salt-load computations for the inflow and
outflow stations have been computed by several alternative methods, and the
salt-load increase from the Grand Valley area has been computed.

The U.S. Geological Survey open-file report may be examined in the U.S.
Geological Survey 1 ibraries located at Rm. 4AlOO, National Center, 12201
Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston, Va. 22092, and Building 25, Box 25046, Federal

....------'<-
