.

.

.

OUIU3~

The 8,700 ~cres of l~.d served by ~ho Br~zicl Reservoir would be
.~ractica,l'ly indo),mdcnt of tIle li:;;ii;~tions of thc Ft. L.'\r"pie Cc,nal
during the [leriod of poak del;Jr.nd. The renc.inder of thc lr.nd scrvod
by the canal ~ould ~lso be~efit. This would
be equivnlent to canal enlc.rgements of 4 percent and 1.3 percent
res;.:>e cti vely,

Table 15 shows potential increased farm deliveries to the 95,000
acres in the Ft. Lc.ramie Division during periods of peak demand.
Since irrigc.ti0n use has priority over (OO1'/er, the Lingle Power:ol!tnt
is not operated dvring times of 2eak irrigation dem&nd when all canal
capacity is used for irrigation, Coluwn 1 of Table 15 lists the
number of days each year WIlen the Lingle plr.nt was not operated, and
the canal was judged to be running at full capacity, as determined
from inspection of the daily flows of the Ft, Laram.i.e CClnn.l, There
could h~ve been llO inadequacy in canal capacity for irrigation while
tile po\VerplClnt was in operation, The earliest date of full Use of
canal capacity fcr irrigation was July 7; the lc-"oest, September 2,
Column 2 of Table 15 lists the increasod fal'ffi deliveries during days
shown in Column 1, which would be possible through operation of
Braziel Reservoir.

It is believed that increased farm delivories during periods of
peak demand would be Inrgely of.fset by decreased demands le.ter in the
se~son nnd the 076rQll result would be more timely delivery of irribc-
tion water rather than increased cons~ption,

Miscnllan60~s Benefits

(a) Decreased canal maintenance costs:

.

At present when a rain causes a sudden dec~ense in the demand for
water on SO::1e portion of the Ft, Laramie DiVision, the fIoVl of the
Fto Laramie Canal must be decreased as ra?idly as possible in the
inte::-ests of water conservation. This often results in sl~ughing of
the banks m,d increased maintenallce costs, ~ith the Braziel Reservoir
in operation (and not full) the flow could be decreased more slowly
B::1.d the increased T1vlastell stored in the reservoir.

(b) Increased power production at Lingle:

The Lingle Hydroelectrio Powerplant obtains its water supply
during the sumrr,er months fr~m the North Platte River at .Vhalen through
the Ft. Laramie Canal. Tailwater is returned to th~ river and u3ed by
downstroam irrigators. The production of power at Lingle must often
bo curtniled or cumpJE:,-t-;':31:.r rJ.j,sr:'flnt.irJ'.led. during midsurn."T1er 'Nhen irrie;h-
tion demN1d'3 ~rG h~.gh.
