. . . 0010ilS INVESTIGATIONS AND REPORTS Previous Investigations The North Platte Project Histories (Gering & Ft. Laramie Irrigation District), 1919-24, describe briefly the development of Dry Creek into the Dry Creek Drain and drainage system. Prac- tically from the beginning of the project the need for an off stream regulating reservoir has been recognized. Bureau maps of the North Platte Project, published in 1909, 1920, and 1929 show a potential reservoir site on Horse Creek in TIyoming. In subsequent years an investigation of the Horse Creek site was made, including the drilling of 14 test holes at the darnsite in 1940. This site was not considered feasible, primarily because of the depth to suitable foundations. Present Investigation The investigation on which this report is based was conducted during the spring and summer months of 1947. The site on Dry Creek Drain was chosen at; the alternative to the Horse Creek site since it would serve the same purpose, and conditions were more favorable for construction. The investigation was conducted in connection with the North Platte River Rehabilitatl.on Investigations, using General Investi- gation funds allotted to the district under notice of allotments from Region 7 headquarters dated February 17, 1947, and May 26, 19117. Scope of Present Investigation A preliminary report has been prepared on this project, The damsite and reservoir area were covered by a topographic survey. 't geological investigation was made, and foundations explored by test pits and core drilling. Test pits and trenches were dug for the purpose of sampling and detennining the extent of the borrow pits. Detailed water and reservoir operation studies were made to determine the capacity required for storage of waste water. The economic conditions were investigated and repayment capacity estimated.
