William McDonald <br />Director <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />Dan Law <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />Dean Stindt 0((5 <br /> <br />DATE: November 19, 1981 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Summary of Salt Contributions to the Colorado River <br />Basin by Industrial Dischargers through the NPDES <br />Permit Program <br /> <br />The subject summary concentrates on those industrial dischargers <br />which fall into one of the following mine or mine processing facility <br />categories: lead and zinc, gold, silver, ferroalloy, uranium, bitumi- <br />nus coal and oil shale. Of these 62 NPDES permits authorizing dis- <br />charge to the Colorado River Basin, discharge data (quantity and <br />quality) was available to determine annual salt contributions for <br />18 of the dischargers. Three of these permits stipulate TDS limita- <br />tions. <br /> <br />A tabulation identifying the name of the permittee and facility, <br />NPDES permit number, annual salt contribution to the Colorado River <br />from 7/80 to 6/81, and where applicable, TDS limitations, follows: <br /> <br />l. Cotter Corporation - J D-9 Mine CO 0036285 <br /> Annual salt contribution for 7/80 to 6/81: 171 tons <br />3. Union Carbide - Uravan Mill CO 0000515 <br /> TDS. limiations: daily average - 48990 Kg/d <br /> daily maximum - 122,470 kg/d <br /> Annual salt contribution for 7/80 to 6/81: 8498 tons <br /> <br />4. GEX Col.orado, Inc. CO 0027146 <br />Annual salt contribution for 7/80 to 6/81: 625 tons <br /> <br />5. Mid-Coninent Resources, Inc.
