McNichols <br /> <br />Dear Governor McNichols: <br /> <br />The attached United States Department of Agriculture report presents <br />information regarding opportunities for watershed protection, flood <br />prevention and water resource development in the Gunnison River Basin of <br />Colorado. It is submitted as a report on participation by the Department <br />of Agriculture in a cooperative survey with the Colorado Water Conser- <br />vation Board. <br /> <br />This cooperative survey was undertaken in response to a reqnest from the <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board dated February 10, 1961, for cooperation <br />by the Department of Agriculture in such a survey. The Department's part <br />of the cooperative survey included the development and presentation in <br />cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board of the material <br />contained in this report. <br /> <br />Department of Agriculture participation in the survey was under the <br />provisions of Section 6 of P. L. 556, 83rd Congress, as amended, which <br />authorized the Department to cooperate with other Federal, State, and local <br />agencies in making investi$ations and surveys of the watersheds of rivers <br />as a basis for the development of coordinated programs. <br /> <br /> <br />This investigation and survey is coordinated with the study and reports <br />of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, relating to the several tributary <br />basins of the Colorado River Basin of western Colorado.
