<br />PREVIOUS STUDIES <br /> <br />Several studies concerning water and related land resource development <br />possibilities and covering portions or all of the Gunnison River Basin, <br />have been made by State and Federal agencies. <br /> <br />Studies by Federal Governr.lent <br /> <br />The Bureau of Reclamation has prepared several reports on the Basin. A <br />reconnaissance report of the Gunnison River project which co~prised the <br />entire Gunnison River Basin was prepared in 1951. This report was based <br />on studies made in the Basin from 1936 to 1950. <br /> <br />Feasibility and/or definite plan reports have also been prepared by the <br />Bureau of Reclamation on the Uncompahgre project, Paonia project, Fruit- <br />growers Extension project, Smith Fork project, Fruitland Mesa project, <br />Bostwick Park project and Curecanti project. These projects are located <br />within the Gunnison River Basin. The Department of Agriculture also pre- <br />pared reports on the Paonia and Smith Fork projects. <br /> <br />The Bureau of Agricultural Economics, USDA, prepared a water facilities <br />area plan in 1940 for the North Fork of the Gunnison River, together with <br />Surface and Tongue Creeks and their tributaries. <br /> <br />Studies by State Government <br /> <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board contracted with the engineering firm <br />of Leeds, Hill and Jewett to make a study of the water resources available <br />from surface supplies of western Colorado. A report was prepared in 1953. <br />Data for the Gunnison River Basin is included in this report. <br /> <br />The Tomichi and Gunnison River Soil Conservation Districts sponsored the <br />Gunnison Pilot Area Cooperative Conservation Program in Gunnison County. <br />Reports covering the activities of this program were prepared in 1953 and <br />1954. <br /> <br />The 1948 report of the Upper Colorado River Basin Compact COlTIffiission includes <br />data about the Gunnison River Basin. <br /> <br />In addition to the above listed reports, other published and unpublished <br />data are available for the Basin. <br /> <br />.' <br /> <br />- 16 - <br />
