r," 'J n01 [) t.. Affected Environment & Consequences 3-11 Ironstone Canal irrigates more than 22,500 acres on the west side of the valley. The East Canal begins at a diversion dam on the southern edge of OIathe, and serves approximately 7,660 acres on the east side of the valley north of Olathe. The final UVRP canal systern is the Garnet Canal. The diversion dam for this system is located about 5 miles north of Olathe at the confluence of the Loutzenhizer Wash with the Uncompahgre River. The Gamet Canal system irrigates about 1,600 acres. Table 3-10 presents the mean monthly flows diverted into UVRP canals for the period 1952 - 1996. This table also shows the average flow diverted to canals upstream and downstream of the proposed Project. In the early 1980s, irrigation diversions began to increase. Since 1982, irrigation diversions are almost 20 percent greater than for the period 1952 through 1981. Several other non-UVRP diversions occur upstream of and within the study area. Diversions are made at the Ouray and Reservation Ditches, between the town of Colon a and the South Canal. Diversions are also made into the Stark Volkmann, Woodgate- Calloway, Val Verde, and Rice Ditches between the South Canal and Selig Canal. Irrigation diversions on the Gunnison River are located downstrearn from the North Fork confluence, serving Delta County and on the North Fork of the Gunnison River Tunnel upstream from the confluence.
