The
ditches located between Chatfield dam and the headgate of the Burlington
ditch in North Denver were excluded from the study upon approval of the
Colorado Division of Water Resources. These ditches have undergone a change.
in use over the years from primarily irrigation ditches to carrier ditches
for cooling water. municipal water use, etc.
SpeCifically. this report presents the following:
1. An accurate mapping of all ditch systems within the study area.
2. The location and identification of all irrigation wells with a
yield greater than 300 gpm within the study area. These wells were mapped
together wit~ the ditch systems.
,
3. All 'irrigated areas under the ditch and well system were defined
on the basic mapping provided by Falcon Air Maps.
4. The Various ditch systems within the study area were rated according.
to the del ivery potential during drought years. and the ditches most seriously
affected as tp the amount of water that could be diverted during droughts. .
were identified.
5. General areas located along or near ditch systems which have the
potential for, large well yields with a subsequent minimum impact on the flow
of the South Platte River were identified.
