(

~,o

diversions into the South Platte Basin in the 1977. drought year were con-
siderabl~ hig~er than in the 1963 drought year which accounts for ~he
hi9her ditch and canal diversions in 1977 than in 1963.

4. Based upon the data used in this study, for the years 1954,
1963, 1975 and 1977, it would appear conjunctive use of surface and alluvial
. 9round water could be expanded without significant negative impact on flows.
of the South Platte River. There is some indication that the safe perennial
. yield of the ground water aquifer in certain areas has not been reached at
the present ti~e. However, additional data and analysis on surface and
.

subsurface flo~s .are necessary to substantiate this hypothesis.

.

5. In Beebe flraw, the ground water aquifer is very effectively
recharged by seepage from ditches and canals, irrigated lands, and probably
most important, seepage from Barr and Milton Reservoirs. It is concluded
that much more extensive pumping of the aquifer in Beebe Draw is possible
particularly 00 a short term basis for drought relief.
6. lnChapter VI, several ditches and canals are recommended for
possible lining in certain areas where excessive seepage losses occur. The
ditches and canals suggested for possible lining consist of the Speer and
East Neres CanjJ.ls in Beebe Draw, the Platte Valley Canal, Evans No.2 ditch
and the Brighton lateral ditch.
7. The ditches and canals most seriously effected during droughts
as to the amount of surface water which can be diverted out of the South
Platte River under the priority system areas are listed in Table V-Ie. The
list presents the percent of the total water right for each ditch under
assumed river calls.

~g
'y;

l/

, ~... .S.o\4
:tL ,,-,a,1<,.,__'tL< -~;;,,-~,

:,L i_
