OOJ95~

- 22 -

Solid Waste and Hazardous Materials Evaluation - Coal. Oil and. Gas--
Only moderate to minimal environmental impacts have been identified for coal
mining and oil and gas development.

Solid Waste and Hazardous Materials Evaluation - Uranium--Significant
environmental impact from in situ mining on ground water could occur. Also.
radium and uranium content of discharge mine water could cause a problem for
suburban water users. It is assumed that there would be minimal problems
with uranium mine and mill siting with respect to any local impacts. Although
further careful review is necessary, it is felt that with appropriate technology
and resources the problems identified above can be mitigated.

Solid Waste and Hazardous Materials Evaluation - Secondary Impacts--
Significant solid waste and hazardous waste impact could occur from
population growth in communities and power plant activity. Again. with
appropriate control and resources. it is anticipated that these impacts could
be mitigated.

Public Agency Costs-- The additional costs of energy development to public
agencies to permit, inspect and enforce their responsibilities under current
law were developed. Using the population and energy resource production
figures, rough estimates were calculated. These estimates reflect costs
and personnel needs above the 1980 Fiscal Year levels necessary to insure
that the energy resources are developed in accord with State and Federal
law. .

Appendix D identifies these costs and Full Time Equivalents (FTEs).
Also, this appendix summarizes the environmental impacts previously discussed.
