S. <br />Highway No. 34 near the mouth of Big Thompson Canyon, .....ill carry <br />water destined for Horsetooth Reservoir and irrigation facilities <br />located in the Poudre Valley. Resting on the canyon walls and <br />intermediate steel supports rising fram the canyon floor, the <br />steel pipe section of the siphon is 9 feet in diameter and 240 <br />feet in l~ngth. Concrete transition sections of the siphon ends <br />connect the pipe with open canal. sections of the Horsetooth Feeder <br />Canal, located on either side of the canyon. <br /> <br /> <br />. ~ <br />~" <br />1;,<<5',' <br />. .'. -'~" <br />, <br /> <br />Big Thompson Siphon. <br /> <br />Horsetooth Reservoir, located about 4 miles west of Fort <br />Collins, covers an area of 1,873 acres and provides 140,500 acre- <br />feet of active storage. Water stored in this reservoir will be <br />used to supplemsnt the irrigation supply of lands in the Poudre <br />Valley. This feature, completed in 1949, included the construc- <br />tion of four dams and a dike, the relocation of about 5 miles of <br />COlUlty road, and the excavation of about 2 miles of equ..a.lizing <br />channels in the bed of the reservou'. <br /> <br />23 <br />
