0403

SIMULATED RESERVOIR CONDITIONS

The proposed dam was simulated as an impermeable boundary. The

northern end of the proposed dam will be in contact with bedrock and a

slurry trench containing impermeable material will prevent flow under

..

the dam.

Constant heads along the southern boundary of the aquifer were

adjusted to obtain the same cross-boundary flowrate as obtained for

simulated existing conditions. The heads were adjusted because the

southern boundary is not far enough from the simulated reservoir not to

be influenced by the reservoir. Furthermore, irrigation south of the

boundary is known to cause ground-water inflow across the boundary.

Assuming irrigation practices remain unchanged, ground-water flowrates

aC:i:"uSS l1u;: ::;uuLilt:~ln aquifer boundary should also remain unchanged 31-

though some redistribution of the flow may occur.

Constant-head nodes along Bijou Creek were adjusted so that the

water table was constrained to be at or below land surface. Conse-

quently, a longer reach of Bijou Creek intercepted ground-water dis-

charge for reservoir conditions than for simulated existing conditions.

/9
