Atriplex corrugata/Oryzopsis hymenoides.

The community is apparently restricted to alluvial soils with sand or
sandy loam texture. Dominant species are Atrip1ex corregata, Ori-
zopsis himenoidies and Aroshio 1anata. The community may be ecotona1
in nature with little or no restr1ct10n to specific soil units.

4. Atrip1ex corrugata/Atrip1ex nutta11ii.

The soils associated with this community are partially derived from
erosion of the pediment slopes which are basically sandy or sandy loam
in texture. The community occurs on 12 to 30% slopes which are heav-
i ly di ssected. The domi nant speci es are Atri p1 ex corrugata, Atri p1 ex
nuttal1ii, and Suaeda correanua. Eurotia lanata and Er10gonum lnfla~
turn are present 1n trace amounts.

5. Atriplex corrugata/Atrip1ex nutta11ii/Oryzopsis hymenoides.

The soil surface of this community type has a well-developed rock
pavement of ca1cidne and ironstone. The community occurs on alluvium
such as old mud flows and/or sandy materials derived from the pedi-
ments. The dominant species include Atrip1ex corrugata, Atrip1ex
nutall ii, Oryzopsi s hymenoi des, Euroti a 1 antam and Ephedra torreyana.

6. Atrip1ex corrugata/Atrip1ex canescens 1inearis.

The community occurs on steep, dissected upland slopes of the Mancos
shale badlands. The vegtative cover occurs primarily in depressions
and on the lower gradient slopes. The dominant species are Atrip1ex
corrugata and Atrip1ex canescens 1inearis.

7. Atrip1ex corrugata/Atrip1ex canescens linearis/Atrip1ex nuttallii.

The community is encountered on lower shale pediments, dissected by
drainage or runoff channels. Intermittent thin mud flow deposits
overlie the shale. The dominant species are Atrip1ex corrugata,
Atrip1ex conescens 1inearis, and Atriplex nutta1lii.

8. Atrip1ex corrugata/Atrip1ex confertifo1ia/Oryzopsis hymenoides.

Remnants of old pediment surfaces, forming plateaus extending out from
the Bookc1iffs are dominated by this community type. The soils are
derived from the Mesa Verde outwash materials and some mixing with tne
Mancos shale. The dominant species are Atrip1ex corrugata, Atriplex
confertifo1ia and Oryzopsis hymenoides.

15

.,;0';"..-<':.,",,;

~,,~,,'
