11

USDI-BLM, 1982b) suggest that there is an important, though not inclusive,
relationship between salt and suspended sediment yields. The original Badger
~ Wash Erosion and Grazing Study (Lusby, 1979) provided data which supported the
~ hypothesis that grazing intensity and season of use influence annual sediment
en yields. However, soils in Badger Wash are classified as slightly to moder-
<Xl ate1y saline (USDI, 1978), and support more vegetation than the highly saline
soils common to Mancos shale regions. Where soils are more saline and less
vegetated, there may be less opportunity to influence sediment and (possible)
salt yields through livestock management.
