To ensure that the agency is responsive to environmental problems <br />throughout the county, regional offices are located in ten regions of the <br />country. Region VIII, with headquarters in Denver, is responsible for <br />Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming and Montana. <br /> <br />a. Air and Waste Management Division <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />The Air and Waste Management Division provides operational management <br />and direction of programs for the control of air pollution and <br />hazardous and toxic substances. It administers the provisions of the <br />Clean Air Act of 1977; the Solid Waste Disposal Act of 1965, as <br />amended by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 and the <br />Solid Waste Disposal Act Amendments of 1980; the Federal Insecticide, <br />Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, as amended by the Federal <br />Environmental Pesticide Control Act of 1972; the Noise Control Act of <br />1972; pertinent radiation activities as they relate to aegion VIII; <br />and the Toxic Substances Control Act and the Comprehensive <br />~nvironmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act 1980. <br /> <br />b. Water Management Division <br /> <br />The Water Management Division provides operational management and <br />direction of all water activities in the region. Programs included <br />are construction grants, water quality planning, water supply, <br />underground injection control, non-point source management, water <br />quality standards, dredge and fill permit reviews, and EIS reviews. <br /> <br />c. Environmental Services Division <br /> <br />The Environmental Services Division is responsible for monitoring, <br />laboratory services, emergency response, quality assurance, and <br />research and development liaison for all program areas in the region. <br /> <br />3. Other ~encies <br /> <br />In addition to the Colorado Department' of Health and the EPA, a number of <br />other agencies have important environmental responsibilities. These <br />agencies include: <br /> <br />a. Colorado Department of Local Affairs <br /> <br />The Colorado Department of Local Affairs is responsible for providing <br />support to local governments in Colorado in a-number of important <br />areas, including energy impact planning and assistance, housing, law <br />enforcement, economic development, and governmental operations. With <br />respect to environmental activities, the Department of Local Affairs <br />is responsible for assisting the Water Quality Control Division in <br />administering non-EPA funded State and Federal wastewater facility <br />grant programs. The Department's Division of Local Government is <br />also responsible for demographic analyses and forecasting, both of <br /> <br />-16- <br />
