<br /> <br />,.-e <br /> <br />e.. <br /> <br />'JRIECCEHVJEI <br /> <br />AUG '4'900 <br />COLORADO W <br />I.CONSZRVArl ' AU:!? <br />O,I.!-JA/Y;) <br /> <br />MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT <br />SM LUIS VALLEY PR.OJECT, COLORADO <br />REGION V <br /> <br />Month of July 1950 <br /> <br />Rio Grande Division <br /> <br />Land classification, field and office work, was continued during <br />the month with no time lost due to inclement weather. <br /> <br />On July 6, the bids on Specifications No. R5-26 (exploratory drilling <br />and water testing for investigetion of Clear Creek Falls Dam and tunnel <br />site, Santa Maria Inlet Power Plant Foundation site and West Santa Maria <br />OUtlet tunnel site) were opened. This work covers the core drilling of the <br />power development sites under consideration. Jones Core Drilling Co. of <br />Dallas, Texas were low bidders and contract was awarded on July 18, 1950. <br />Regional Geologist Darnell was present at the opening of the bids. <br /> <br />On July 12 Regional Geologist Darnell and Project Field Engineer <br />Gyllenskog visited the power sites and set the location of the desired <br />exploratory drill holes. <br /> <br />On July 19, Dr. Kelly and Dr. Nelson of the Bureau of Plant Industry <br />&nd Agricultural Engineering at Ft. Collins vi'~.ited the Land Classification <br />Section. <br /> <br />Weminuche Pass Division <br /> <br />Regional Geologist Darnell and Engineer D. Arterburn,of the Regional <br />Branch of Design and Construction, accompanied Project Engineer Sweet and <br />Project Field Engineer Gyllenskog over the proposed canal lines at <br />i'leminuche Pass. <br /> <br />Closed Basin Division <br /> <br />Observati0n of the fluctuation of the ground water level continued <br />during the month by personnel of the Geological Survey. <br /> <br />Conejos Division - Platoro Unit <br /> <br />On June 28, Regional Counsel ~aird, Regional Supervisor of Operation <br />and Maintenance Bristol, and Project Engineer Sweet met with the Conejos <br />Water Conservancy District at Antonito to discuss the consent agreements. <br />Progress on the placing of the fill of Platoro Dam was curtailed by <br />climatic conditions and lack of equipment to rectify the moisture in the <br />material. The river was diverted through the outlet tunnel during the <br />latter portion of the month.
