..

.")
,
.',

lJJ
0)
~
C\l

Maybell-Sunbeam area, and 10,600 acres in the Great Northern area. It

I"ould also provide for the generation of about 140,000,000 kilowatt-hours

of hydro-electric energy annually, flood control in the Craig and down-

stream areas, and reservoir fishery and recreation.

The plan would provide for construction of Juniper reservoir

to a capacity of something less than 2,000,000 acre-feet, California

Park reservoir with about 36,000 acre-feet of capacity, Rampart reser-

voir at about 7,500 acre-feet, and Jubb Creek terminal reservoir with

a capacity of about 2,000 acre-feet. The plan would include the Maybell

and Sunbeam canals, Axial and Deception Creek canals, and the Elkhead

canal. It would also include a powerplant at Juniper dam and a hydraulic

turbine pump to lift water up to the elevation needed to serve the Axial

Basin and Deception Creek lands. The plan should also make provision

for the ultima'te development of the Deadman's Bench canal for irrigation

of additional lands downstream in Colorado and Utah if an when it is

found justified.

The Bureau's studies indicate these potential plans have several

advantages over the plans presented in previous reconnaissance reports.

The new plans will, (1) make more water from the White River availabl~

for development of oil shale, recreation, irrigation, industry, etc.,

in the White River Basin, (2) provide for putting a greater portion of

the flows of the Yampa River to beneficial use in the state of Colorado,

and (3) improve the engineering feasibility and economic justification

of bota the Yellow Jacket and Juniper project plans.

Tc~tative project data for these recommended project plans are

sholm o~ the attached sheets.
