Socioeconomic Factors

There are a number of social and economic factors that need to
be inventoried and discussed in connection with any project. In-
cluded among these factors are the population history and projections,
the economics of the local area, employment and unemployment, avail-
able transportation, residential patterns, health or medical services,
police services, education facilities, utilities and municipal
services, and noise factors.

1. The census populations of Rio Blanco
County and Rangely from 1920 to date were:

1920 1930 1940 1950 1960 1970 1977
Rio Blanco
County 3,135 2,980 2,943 4,719 5,150 4,842 5,100
Rangely * * 302* 808 1,464 1,591 1,871
* Unincorporated

Range1y was established in 1885 and incorporated as a town in
1946. Rio Blanco County was formed from Garfield County in 1889. The
county covers 3,263 square miles. The population of Range1y has steadily
increased since its incorporation in 1946. Between 1940 and 1950 the
county experienced a 60 percent increase due mostly to the development
of the Rangely oil field, but the county's population has been stable
since 1950.

1I-31

i -~

&Iii
.'
