Flooding normally occurs in February and March. when ice
jams cause the ice and water levels to rise and cover the lower parts
of Rangely (1).

The immediate area around Rangely is affected by convective condi-
tions resulting in sudden cloudbursts. Floods during the summer months
are of short duration and low total water production. but peak flows
are high. The major contributor to the flow in the White River occurs
during the April to July period as a result of snowmelt (1).

K. Recreation

This part of Rio Blanco County is deficient in recreational oppor-
tunities. The White River for several miles upstream and downstream
from the reservoir site is a poor fishery. and other forms of water-
oriented recreation are almost nonexistent.

Big game hunting
during the late fall.
Piceance Creek basin,
their headquarters.

for elk, deer, and antelope occurs in the area
The major portion of the hunters are in the
and they make Meeker.
