<br />Oo.Z2tl3 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />RECEIVED <br />MAY 1 4 1997 <br /> <br />EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT <br />TO THE <br />COLORADO RIVER BOARD OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board <br /> <br />May 5, 1997 <br /> <br />ADMlNISTRA nON <br /> <br />Fiscal Year 1997 -98 Bud~et <br /> <br />Last month I reported that the Resources Subcommittee #3 of the Assembly would be <br />holding budget hearings concerning the Board's FY 1997-98 Budget and I was requested to be <br />prepared to discuss California's Plan to live within its 4.4 maf apportionment of Colorado River <br />water, Included in the Board folder is a copy of the material which was sent to the Committee, Also <br />included in the Board folder is a copy of the Colorado River Board's preliminary budget for FY <br />1997-98 for your review, The Board will need to vote on the budget at its June meeting, <br /> <br />PROTECTION OF EXISTING RIGHTS <br /> <br />Colorado River Water Report <br /> <br />During March 1997, storage in the major Upper Basin reservoirs decreased by 414,000 acre- <br />feet and storage in the Lower Basin reservoirs increased by 380,000 acre-feet. Total System active <br />storage at the end of March was 49,036 million acre-feet (maf) which is 0,663 mafless than one year <br />ago. <br /> <br />April releases from Hoover, Davis, and Parker Dams averaged 19,330, 19,090 and 14,120, <br />cubic feet per second (cfs), respectively, Planned releases from those three dams for the month of <br />May are 19,920, 19,170, and 14,120 cfs, respectively, The May planned releases represent <br />downstream water requirements. <br /> <br />The final April 15th forecast for April through July unregulated inflow to Lake Powell is <br />11.500 maf, which is 149 percent of the 30-year average for the period 1961-1990, The inflow to <br />Lake Powell for the 1996-97 water year is expected to be 16,] 95 maf, or 138 percent of the 30-year <br />average, <br /> <br />The Lower Division states' estimated consumptive use of Colorado River water for calendar <br />year 1997, as estimated by Board staff, totals 8,407 maf and is projected as follows: Arizona, <br />2.945 maf; California, 5,200 maf; Nevada, 0,262 maf, Estimated additional unmeasured return flow <br />credits of 0.273 maf would reduce the total amount to 8,134 maf, For calendar year 1997, the <br />Central Arizona Project (CAP) is projected to divert 1.407 maf and The Metropolitan Water District <br />of Southern California (MWD) 1.244 maf, <br />
