.

.

W In addition to the population within the basin, through exports, the
(,t)
en
,.j:;>. Colorado River serves several major centers which lie outside the basin,

including Denver, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The

.

major service area in southern Califo, rnia is within OBERS Regions 1508

and 1510. At present, the Colorado River, in one way or another serves

upward of l5 million people.

.

Water Depletion for Municipal
and Industrial Use

.

Water Depletions. Estimated values of municipal and industrial

uses are shown for 1975 in Tables III-5 and llI-6. These values were

calculated by linear interpolation from 1965 Framework Study data using

.

OBERS Series E projections. Because these are calculated values they

should not be considered as absolute. Rather, the values represent an

order of magnitude and a relative means of comparison.

.

In 1975, agriculture accounted for the major water depletion in the

Upper Basin (Table lll- 5) with Basin 1405 being the major agricultural

.

water user. Comparison with 1965 data indicates the amount of agricultural

water depletion in Basin l401 has not increased as much as in Basins

l407, l406, and 1404. In 1975, the major agricultural depletion occurred

.

in Basins 1402, 1404, 1405, l406, and 1407, with comparatively small

water depletions in Basins 1403 and l404.

.

45

.

J
