..

D~G~~Jtribution supply systems; however, these programs may

take as much' as a year to become fully effective and

therefore are not expected to be significantly beneficial

for the summer load season.

For electric systems operating in the states of

Oregon, Idaho and Washington, it is estimated that

about 4.2 pe~cent per month of the projected electric

energy requirements could be saved through voluntary

energy conservation procedures. If this is accomplished,

an average monthly savings of 365 GWh could be converted

to storage. 'Over the four month period, the aggregate

savings would be 1460 GWh which is about 5.0 percent

of the projected hydroelectric energy requirements.

Through cooperative efforts of utility systems and

state officials in the states of Oregon, Washington,

Idaho and Montana a voluntary energy conservation program

was initiated on February 15, 1977 with a goal of reducing

electric energy usage by 10 percent. As of the first

week in March, the temperature-corrected saving amounted

to about 4.5 percent. The present goal of 10 percent

was established to avoid later mandatory curtailments.

The initial program has consisted of appeals to all

customers to Qurtail electric energy use., Because results

so far have fa~led to reach the 10 percent goal, all

customers will be further urged to make every practical

~~};f1~~I
:.........:.;'.'..:,:
~~: ~,' --,;"..,. : .:,; ':~',.'-,',

;: O~,~~,~,..;<~~~;.:~

~~w'"
~".,
~1r

47
