Comparative studies of seven structural
alternatives in the Canadian River Basin indicated that the Hydro site would
probably be a favorable site. The Hydro site would yield about 126,500 acre-
feet. Feasibility investigations of the Hydro site were initiated in fiscal
year 1978. The study is complete, and a concluding report was released for
public use. The report indicates that surface water development at this time
would be premature and that further study of the project was not warranted.

DESCRIPTION: The study area included that portion of the Canadian River Basin
in west-central Oklahoma extending from Oklahoma City upstream about 140 miles
to Camargo in Dewey County, Oklahoma.

During the feasibility-level investigation, the Bureau identified and evaluated
various alternatives to meet projected future water-oriented needs of the proj-
ect area including M&I needs in the central Oklahoma area.

65, Wilburton Project, OK (Inactive)

STATUS: Reappraisal has been completed. Findings of the investigation show
that Federal development of the Higgins reservoir site is not warranted at the
present time. Existing sources of water supply are adequate for all projected
needs. An appraisal report dated November 1981 was released for public use.

DESCRIPTION: The Wilburton Project reappraisal was to reappraise the short- and
long-term M&I water supply needs of the project area (Pittsburg and Latimer
Counties, Oklahoma) and to reassess the capability of available water resources
to meet those needs.

67, Western U.S. Water Plan (Inactive) (See Arkansas River Basin Above
Keystone Dam)

40
