ARKANSAS RIVER BASIN ABOVE KEYSTONE DAM

STATUS: Authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1965. Postauthorization
planning began in FY77. Studies were terminated in 1979 because of the lack
of economic feasibility.

DESCRIPTION: Authorized purposes are flood control, water supply, water
quali ty, and recreation. Towanda Lake would be part of a three-lake system
for flood control on the Walnut River including El Dorado and Douglass Lakes.

Preconstruction planning studies were suspended in January 1979
of a lack of economic justification. Authorization was the Flood
Act of 1965.

DESCRIPTION: Tulsa District had recommended a channel improvement project
combined with a spoil bank levee and a training levee at the upper end of the
project. The feasibility of a snagging and clearing project to alleviate
flooding was also studied and was not economically feasible.
