Moreover, the energy indus- <br />tries' large diversion and consumptive use of <br />water decreases the stream's capacity for <br />assimilating those discharges. <br /> <br />Beneficial uses of water in the Upper <br />Colorado River Basin for agricultural and <br /> <br />energy development activities inevitably <br />increase salinity levels downstream if no <br />control measures are undertaken. A mathemat- <br />ical model will be formulated to determine <br />the impact of water uses on salinity levels <br />and to derive least-cost salinity control <br />measures to reduce those impacts. <br /> <br />20 <br />
