While adjacent prairie areas lost 12 percent <br />of their population between 1930 and 1940, <br />the irrigated area gained 18 percent. <br /> <br />.. Fderal tax revenues in 1953 amounted to <br />$45.37 per acre in this irrigated area <br />compared to $1.37 per acre for adjacent <br />prairie lands. <br /> <br />The necessary materials, fuels, and machinery used <br /> <br />in irrigation farming largely come from other parts of the <br /> <br />Nation. Through this two-way street of commerce valley <br /> <br />farmers pass nearly $50 million annually for operating <br /> <br />expenses. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Project costs are being repaid on schedule. To date project farms have produced crops worth <br /> <br />20 times the cost of building the project.
