lGOO

.

H. Pueblo Reservoir

i
At the end of water year 1987, Pueblo Reservoir content was
229,780 acre-feet. The Winter Water Storage Program was in effect from
November 15 through I~arch 14 allowing the maximum daily storage in
Pueblo Reservoir of 38,050 acre-feet of water. The original storaQe of
wi nter water had been halted on December 20 at 27,000 acre-feet due to
possible storage restrictions. However, Highline Canal, Bessemer Ditch,
Holbrook Mutual, and Oxford Ditch Compani~s requested storage of an
additional 11,050 acre-feet. The additio~al winter water was stored
between February 7 and March 7. Of the 38,050 acre-feet of winter water
stored, 33,090 acre-feet were released, 1,~60 acre-feet evaporated and
3,900 acre-feet remained in storage at thei end of the water year. In
addition to the winter water releases,' 51,240 acre-feet of the
previously stored Arkansas River water (stored under Fryingpan-Arkansas
storage decree of 1939) was released and 2,140 acre-feet evaporated and
18,120 acre-feet of West Slope impprts were released wi th
3,330 acre-feet lost to evaporation. P~eblo Reservoir reached its
maximum storage on March 13 with an ele;vation of 4881.07 feet and
content of 267,260 acre-feet. i
i
. I
The near average native runoff in the Ar,kansas River and the normal
precipitation in the basin supplied most of'the needs of the water users
below Pueblo Reservoir until July when storage releases were required to
supplement the river supply (exhibits 14 and 15).

During water year 1988, 69,360 acre-feet of Project water was released
and 16,160 acre-feet was lost to evaporatior. The water year ended with
150,780 acre-feet of water in storage jin Pueblo Reservoir. The
1987-1988 winter water storage is shown ori exhibit 16 and the releases
are shown on exhibit 17. I

.

The pan evaporation rate used for computing Pueblo Reservoir evaporation
is shown on exhibit 18. Table 8 and exhibit 19 show Pueblo Reservoir
operations during water year 1988.

I. Storage Contracts

I
I
i
In water year 1988, the Project had 8 contracts for storage of
water in Project storage space in the Eait Slope Storage System. Six
are long-term contracts: Twin Lakes Reservoir and Canal Company for
54,452 acre-feet, city of Colorado Springs for firm storage for
17,416 acre-feet, city of Auror~ for 5,000 acre-feet,
Pueblo Board of Water Works for 5,000 acre~feet, High Line Canal Company
for 10,000 acre-feet of storage space, and Homestake Project for 30,000
acre-feet of storage space. The rema i ni ng) contracts were 1-year interim
contracts for if-and-when available storag~ space.
,

J. Project Water Sales and Deliverie's
14

.
