<br />,.'"'OOU98. <br /> <br />REPORT OF SAN JUAN RDlER ENGINEERING COMMITTEE <br /> <br />January, 1959 <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />A report on the San Juan-Chama, a tra}\l!mountaindiversion <br />project prepared by the Bureau of Reclamation was completed in <br />November 1955. A supplement to this report WaS issued i;n May. 1957. <br />The supplemental report recommends the const:ruction of 'an <br />initial unit of the project providing for a diver$ion in Colorado <br />and use in the State of New Mexico of an average of 110,pOO acre <br />feet of water from the headwater tributaries (Nayajo River, Little <br />Navajo River and Rio Blanco) of the Sa~Juan River. This initial <br />unit is to be so designed and constructed that ultimately anaddi- <br />tional 125,000 acre feet of water could be diverteq fro11l othertri- <br />buta:ries (West and East Forks) of the Sanjuan River. in Colorado. <br />The water is to be used in the Rio Grande Basin in New Mexico.. <br />Coordinated with the time of issuance of the s.an Juan- <br />Chamareports, a report on the .Navajo Project for use of San Juan <br />River water in New. Mexico" was prepared by the Bureau of Indian <br />Affairs. The report was completed in January, 1955. A supplement <br />to this report was issued in March, 1957 <br />The supplemental report recommends the const:ruction of <br />canals and pump~ng facilities for the irrigation of 110,630aore8 <br />of new land in New Mexico.
