Ground-water supplies of as much as 900 gallons per minute (57 liters per
second) are available from wells in the alluvial aquifers in the Steamboat
Springs~Ciaig area, according to a recent u.S. Geological Survey report.
The one-sheet map report, complete with a hydrogeologic map and a table of
chemical analyses, describes the geologic occurrence and quality of ground
water in the study area. The report was prepared in cooperation with the
Colorado Division of Water Resources, Office of the State Engineer.

According to u.S. Geological Survey hydrologists, high-yield wells can be
developed from aquifers in the alluvium, but well yields from other aqui-
fers are generally less than 25 gallons per minute (1.6 liters per second).
Calcium and sodium sulfate type waters may be found in parts
where ground water has been in contact with coal or shale.
