Water-level measurements made prior to the 1977 irrigation season in
350 wells in Colorado are published' in a new report released by the e '
U.S. Geological Survey. The report includes data from a Statewide
network of observation wells cooperatively funded by the Colorado De-
partment of Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources, Office of
the State Engineer, and the U.S. Geological Survey. Where available,
measurements made during the 4 preceding years are included to indicate
rising or declining water levels.

Water levels are directly related to the amount of ground water in
storage. This report provides a basis for estimating changes in the
quantity of stored ground water. The report will help managers, well
owners, and others in water-use planning.

The report, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 77-461, "Water-Level
Records for Adams, Larimer, Logan, Morgan, Sedgwick, Washington, and
Weld Counties, Colorado, 1973-77," was compiled by Thomas J. Major and
Kenneth D. Vaught.
