Many intangible power bene-
fi ts, although not measurable in monetary terms, would occur by virtue
of the exieterice and operation of the project. Such benefite include
conservation of natural fuel resources, contribution to national se-
curity, greater dependability and continuity of pO>ler service, rural
electrification, commercial and rural development, and indu.strial
e:.pansion. As an eX13mple of a potential indirect benefit involving
the conservation of natural fuel reeources, it ie estimated that the

annual output of hydroelectric energy from the Initial Development would

be equivalent to about 1,500,000 barrels of fuel oil.

Meaeurable irrigation benefits from the eupplemental supply of

water that would be made available under the Initial Development are

evaluated at annually. The net direct irrigation benefit,

measured by the increased gross crop and livestock values less the

./

increased farm investment and operating costs, would amount to
each year. Indirect irri~ation benefits would result from the proc-

"".-..

essing of the increaBed agricul t'll'al products through subsequent stagee

of industry and from the increased local farm trade and expenditures.

./ The annual indirect benefi ts from the Initial DevelO'pment total ,/

Numerous other indirect and intangible irrigation benefits, which

54
