The most desirable and Eatis-

factory means of supplementing the inadeqU!"ts water st1pply of the Eastern

Slope area is by diversion of water from the Colorado River Basin. It

must be emphasized that the additional water supply here contemplated is

to be ueed for a supplemental supply and not to create a.large new addi-

tional irrigated acreage.

Power

The hydroelectric power resources of the Eastern Slope are rela-

tively undeveloped as only 9.420 kilowatts of hydroelectric generating
,..'I
capacity are installed at present~~~h rerresent~ only a small part of

the potential available. Power obtained from hydroelectric plants con-

stitutes only about 11 percent of the electricity generated on the

Eastern Slope. Electric power requirements are greater than the quantity

generated in the project area, and the deficit is being supplied from

plants outside the area. Additional pO'A'er h needed for present local

conRumption. Industrial expansion is dependent upon the availability
of large blocks of firm power at reasonable rates.
