Along the Arkanscs River above Pueble, muni-
cipal vmter supplies arc cdequate for the present population. In gen-
eral, most of the other towns and cities in the volley do not havo acute
water shortoges undor present cenditions, but 011 oxcept Colorode Springs
arc soriously in need of a better quolity of woter. The anticipnted in-
creose in population for the cities of Pueblo and Colorado Springs from
development of tho potenticl Gunnison-Arkansas Projoct would croate a
dornnnd for municipal wcter in excess of the amount which could bo BUP-
plied by tho existing systems.

In the Initial Development c supplemental municipal supply of 5,700
acre-feet of water per year would be mode available to thu cities of
Fuoblo and Colorado Springs. For tho purposos of this report, tho de-
toilud discussion of supplying additionnl municipal water has been
lirr, itcd to the cities of Fueblo and Color"do Springs. It 'is recognized,
hO"Qver, th"t other cities cnd tovms in the valley "my also wish to aug-
ment or improve their municipal supplies at the time of tho Initiol
Development. This could be accomplished by reducing the CTIount of ,votcr
m"dc avoibblo fer irrigntion. Cities ootc.ining l1lunicipfll wnter would
be expected to pay the costs of procurement over flnd above ony
neoessnry replccareont to the Arkflnsas River incident to the sutisfaction
of thoir diversions.

In the If.uximum Gravity Divorsion the municipnl vmter requirements
of most cities and to,vns in the Arkcnscs'V~lloy would bo much groutor,
and fl totel of cbout 45,000 ncro-feet of wc,tcr per year would be made
available to Puoblo, Colorado Springs, and other municipalitios pre-
viously mentioned os being able to obtain ,roter from tho project.

2
