A leak at West Wide siphon was repaired <br />from the outside by chipping and calking and making a dry pack <br />cement patch. . <br />A total of 1765 feet of ,-ent pipe, consisting of 397 feet of lO-inch <br />and 1368 feet of 12-inch pipe, was placed in Berdoo Adit to replace <br />pipe removed during the war. Timber sets in the ad it were reblocked <br />where they had become loosened_ Eleven manhole opening doors <br />were placed in structures located in the Fan Hill, Wide Canyon and <br />1000 Palms areas_ <br />District forces inspected the work of the Kaiser Company in so <br />far as its operations affected the District. The iron mine of the <br />Kaiser Company lies northwest of the Eagle Mountain pumping <br />plant. An agreement between the Kaiser Company and the District, <br />dated January 1, 1947. provides for the use by the Company of the <br />District access road to Eagle Mountain pumping plant and a pro- <br />ration of the maintenance expenses of the road in proportion to <br />use_ The agreement also provides for use by the Company of the <br />District's Pinto well located about 2 miles north of Pinto siphon <br />and permits the construction of a pipe line and telephone line from <br />the well along District rip:ht of way _ Work was completed by the <br />Company on the Pinto well pipe line and this work was inspected <br />by District forces_ The Kaiser Company Is also constructing a rail- <br />road a'lld telephone line between its mine and the Southern Pacific <br />Railroad at Salton Sea_ The crossing of District rights of way and <br />the construction of the railway over the aqueduct are covered under <br />an agreement between the Company and the District dated June 6, <br />1947. The crossing over the cut-and-cover conduit section of the <br />aqueduct. made by means of a steel plate girder bridge with concrete <br />abutments. was completed in April 1948. The bridge work and the <br />railroao and telephone construction on District rights of way were <br />inspected during construction by District forces to assure pro- <br />tection of District interests_ On the request of the District, the <br />Kaiser Company installed a warning signal at the crossing of the <br />railroad and the Eagle Mountain access road_ <br /> <br />San Jacinto tunnel <br /> <br />Work on the grouting and repair of the concrete lining in San <br />Jacinto tunnel was resumed on August 5. 1947 and terminated on <br />November 29. 1947. The work previously clone between November <br />15. 1946 and May 14, 1947 was found. in general, to be holding <br />against the external water pressure_ A flow of 375 gallons per <br />
