Yields from wells completed in the Dakota Sandstone <br />ranged from 1 to 22 gal/min. Aquifers in the Mancos Shale generally do not <br />produce sufficient quantities of water for most uses. Water production in <br />wells in the Mancos Shale often is erratic, and the water often is highly <br />mineralized. The weathered and fractured layers of the Mancos Shale may <br />contain water that is recharged by the irrigation system. Use of such water <br />would be limited because of poor quality. There are a few wells completed in <br />aquifers of the Morrison Formation west of Montrose, but water from that <br />formation has limited use in the study area. <br /> <br />19 <br />
