The "best" condition

was assumed to be the highest level of discharge which could be sustained by

the reservoir over the entire year. The alternative was selected from pre-

vious operational studies for alternatives 6, 7 and 8, which minimize risk to

fish, wildlife and recreation. Alternative 6 was selected since it will pro-

vide an average year-round discharge of 70 cfs and at least a 50 cfs discharge

in the winter.

2.1.10 Alternative 10. Municipal/Industrial Sales Minimizing Risk to
Fish, Wildlife and Recreation Including Augmentation of
Hydropower

,

This alternative improves conditions for hydroelectric power generation

by augmenting winter releases. Increased winter releases also benefit the

fishing but may lead to decreased reservoir levels in summer months. Winter

flows (November through March) were augmented to the 90 cfs level. This pro-

vides a year-round minimum release from Ruedi Dam of 90 cfs. The maximum

augmentation required for hydropower in any year was 9,900 acre-feet with the

average annual augmentation being 8,500 acre-feet. Figure 2.9 shows typical

charts for reservoir level and instream flow in the Fryingpan River for

Alternative 10.
