r ('
;~ '2. 'j \J

A complete description of the Fountain Valley Purification Plant
is contained in a May 2, 1977, Environmental Report prepared by the
City of Colorado Springs, Department of Public Utilities Water
Division.

.

A powerplant is also being constructed in the vicinity of the
purification plant site. Although both plants are located in the
same area owned by Colorado Springs, neither the conduit nor the
purification plant will provide water for the powerplant.

3. Other Fountain Valley Water Recipients

a. Widefield

The unincorporated community of Widefield obtains its water supply
from eight privately owned wells. The eight wells tap the Fountain
Creek alluvium and are located within the service area boundaries.
The eight wells have a total rated capacity of 515 million gallons
per day and an estimated average annual yield of 2,240 acre-feet.
Widefield's water supply system also includes treated water storage
facilities with a capacity of 1.25 million gallons. The treatment
of the water supply is chlorination.

b. Fountain

The city of Fountain obtains its water supply from Little Fountain
Creek and wells with approximately 50 percent of its total water
supply coming from each source. The Little Fountain Creek intake is
located at Keeton Reservoir approximately 12 miles west of the city.
The Little Fountain system has a primary storage capacity of 57
acre-feet and an average annual yield of 560 acre-feet. Three of
the city's five wells are being used at the present time. The
estimated average annual yield of the five wells is approximately
1,300 acre-feet providing the city a total annual water supply of
1,860 acre-feet. Fountain has one treatment plant with a capacity
of 0.5 million gallons daily. At the present time only 50 percent
of the water supply is treated, resulting in an average filter plant
load of 200,000 gallons per day. The system includes a treated
water storage capacity of 500,000 gallons.

.

c. Security

The Security Water District obtains its water supply from 12 of 14
privately owned wells. The 12 wells in operation tap the Fountain
Creek alluvium and are located within the service area boundaries.
The estimated capacity of the 14 wells is 7.2 million gallons daily

.

II-IS
